Explosion-proof resistance thermometers are typically used in conjunction with display instruments, recording instruments, electronic computers, and other devices. They directly measure the temperature of liquid, vapor, and gaseous media, as well as solid surfaces, within the range of -200°C to 500°C, where hydrocarbons and other explosive substances are present at production sites.

Explosion-proof resistance thermometers utilize the principle of flameproof enclosure, with components such as junction boxes designed to be sufficiently robust. All parts that could generate sparks, arcs, or hazardous temperatures are sealed within the junction box cavity. When an explosion occurs inside the cavity, the flame is extinguished and the temperature is cooled by the gap at the joint surface, preventing the propagation of flames and heat beyond the enclosure, thereby achieving explosion protection.
